The book Charlotte's Web by E.B. White has an important theme. Positivity. Wilbur is the main source of it. Unlike the other characters, he is always able to find the best in every situation. Wilbur doesn't quit!
An example is when he tries to escape and fails. When he is back in his pen, he decides that he his happier in the comfort of his own home. Wilbur decided that he could live a happy life in the pen, as opposed to a hard life in the unknown of the world.
Another example is when Wilbur tried to spin a web. He decided that he could do anything if he put his mind to it. In the book, Wilbur says, "I could spin as web if I tried. I've just never tried." even though Wilbur is a young pig, and this could make him seem naive, it is his way of saying anything is possible.
This theme of positivity, as well as playing a big roll in the story, it is a good lesson for people to learn; especially young kids. Even though most people probably aren't looking for themes, and probably won't consciously find any, themes probably register in their minds. It will stick in their minds that Wilbur takes risks and doesn't let barriers let him down.
Wilbur is a very positive character. he has taught me, and the other millions of people who have read Charlotte's Web a valuable lesson. He doesn't let the other animals change his way of life, like we shouldn't change for people. He knows how to make the best of every situation. He lives his life to its fullest.
Micaela,
ReplyDeleteI love your entry! It's really deep, and it makes it sound like you really enjoyed Charlotte's Web. Plus, the last paragraph is soooooo true! It's really well said. :)
If I had to change one thing in the entry it would be the way the first two paragraphs fit together. They're both great examples, but I don't feel that you need both of them in a row. Maybe you could take one out or put a real life connection between them.
